Despite losing 6-0 to the opposition, Lancaster and Morecambe went out on Saturday fighting.

The team set out with a good structure and with good strategies for their match. During the first half of the match, 4 goals were conceded. These goals came from either short corners or from long corners. Lancaster and Morecambe played very strong defensively, regardless of these goals, as Leyland continuously hammered balls at the net, making them almost impossible to save and clear quickly.

The first short corner was given away during the first 10 minutes of the match, however this was no worry to Lancaster and Morecambe, as it was defended perfectly, not allowing the goal to be scored. With Sally Wilson (CH) running 1, Harriet Patterson (LI) running two and Steph Earl (LB) along with Tammy Hutchinson (RB) staying post, nothing was going to get through them this time.
Shortly after this downfall, Lancaster and Morecambe went on the attack, putting pressure on Leyland.

After a good battle in the D, L&M managed to win a short corner. This short was well organised, with Megan Wilson (CF) standing at the top ready to strike, Sally Wilson (CH) next to her to ready to stop the ball, Harriet Patterson (LI) and Noemie Dower (RI) running slip. The rest of the forwards and midfield stood back to back up. The ball was shot on target and was going bottom right corner until Leyland’s defender deflected the shot off the pitch, giving us another opportunity from a long corner.

The half time whistle blew and L&M came in for a team talk, discussing new tactics, such as double rings around the opposition, positioning, and how to successfully pass on the attack.
During the second half, L&M were stronger than ever, battling for every minute they had left on the pitch.

Some great attacking runs were made by our man of the match, Noemie Dower. These runs freed up space and gave us the opportunity to put more pressure on the opposition, making them more stressed and worked up, meaning that their skill was lessened as a result.

When Leyland had attacking short corners in the second half, we changed the structure of our defence, which meant that no goals were scored by shorts.

Only two goals were conceded during the second half, showing just how much L&M were battling. This was down to man to man marking, and down to the fact that Leyland’s players had absolutely no time on the ball, so were rushed into passing, making their actions less accurate.

All in all, every single player on the pitch tried their absolute hardest on Saturday, fighting for every minute we had. This can be reflected in the fact 8 L&M players were nominated for man of the match, showing just how much everyone tried.
