Lancaster and Morecambe Ladies 2nd team - 3 Windermere Ladies 1st team - 2

Our ladies 2nd team continued their winning streak against undefeated third placed Windermere for a well deserved win on Saturday. Lancaster and Morecambe welcomed a large squad from the Lakes this Saturday at the University of Cumbria home pitch.

The score matched how close the game was throughout the seventy minutes.

Windermere’s strength and determination was seen from the first whistle testing our defence in the first seconds of the game. LMHC replied with a great counter attack down the left hand side with Grace Charlesworth linking up with newcomer Alice Phipps. This led to the home side’s first goal coming within five minutes of the start with a cracking goal from Laura Cape. A second goal nearly came soon after with a pass from Cape to Yasmin Dodd, trying a reverse hit, was superbly blocked by their keeper, the remarkable Margaret Belk.

LMHC kept attacking from both sides with the second goal coming from the right hand side finished off in the circle by Kirsty Lee, a great addition to our team taking the team 2-0 into the lead. Annabelle Cartmell added her name to the score card within minutes with a cracking strike from the top of the circle. Windermere soon replied with a goal taking LMHC to half time 3-1 in the lead.

The second half was full of chances for both teams with Lorna Ferguson missing out by inches to join the scorecard. Windermere were successful and took one of their chances taking the teams within one goal difference. Pam Fawcett had a fantastic game as centre mid blocking Windermere’s attack and distributing wide in our attacks. Captain Bowman’s sheer calmness at the back was noted by team manager Gomersall. Sheer guts and hardwork from the home team kept the score line the same until the final whistle.
